Eyelid Surgery
The plastic surgery of eyelids is also known as blepharoplasty (Greek: blepharon – “eyelid” + plassein – “to form”). It is considered to be not a very dangerous, but a complex surgery, and lasts for 2-3 hours.

The plastic surgery of eyelids was first referred to in the ancient Greek and Roman manuscripts written centuries ago. In the Middle Ages doctors used this information and further improved it.

The surgery is performed for lifting the upper and lower eyelids, removing the excess fat, as well as correcting the shape of the eyes.

Through the surgery it is possible to remove the bags under the eyes, the wrinkles and folds around the eyes.

There are several types of blepharoplasty. The classical method offers the removal of excess skin and fat through making an incision on the upper and lower eyelids or the wrinkles. Blepharoplasty makes the face look younger, rested and full of energy. The look becomes more expressive and attractive. The tissues remain swollen for a few days after the surgery. The bruises usually disappear 3-5 days after the operation. The stitches are usually removed 4-5 days following the surgery, after which protective patches are being attached on the scars for another couple of days. In this period it is already allowed to use hypoallergenic decorative cosmetics. It is recommended to wear sunglasses for 1-2 weeks after the surgery to protect the eyes from the adverse effect of ultraviolet rays. Soon after the surgery the scars gradually fade and disappear. Modern technologies allow performing laser surgeries of eyelids, which are quicker and easier, and the tissues recover sooner. These include correction of the upper and lower eyelids, circular blepharoplasty, Asian eyelid surgery and canthopexy.
